I am currently studying in University of Melbourne majoring in Physics. I am also a tutor for chemistry, mathematics and physics, and the main writer for Nerd of Passion.
I am a very big nerd aspiring to be a theoretical physicist that spends almost all of my free time reading, studying, collecting books, learning random new things, thinking about questions that normal people won’t even give a second thought about (Like what does it mean to “Get a life” and why are we humans so lazy?), and indulging in movies, video games and dates occasionally.
I grew up in Singapore. When I was a kid till middle school and I was totally hopeless in studies. Without any ambition and passion, I was a mediocre student in school.
All that changed when I was fifteen, and decided I need to get my life together. That's when I happened to stumble upon my dad’s Engineering Mathematics textbook and Walter Lewin’s MIT lectures on Classical Mechanics. That’s when my interest in physics sparked (actually it was chemistry at first) and I was set into being a great physicist when I grow up.
Since then my academic results climbed up, eventually being a Dux at my middle school in Singapore. Even my teachers were shocked on how I progressed from one of the worst student to the top.
I moved to Australia in mid-2011 and I graduated from Bellarine High School in 2012 with an ATAR of 99.55 being a Dux; and believe it or not I did not lock myself in my room and study 10 hours a day. I was actually a huge gamer and played more video games than I’m proud of.
If you know that annoying kid in school that seems to barely study but getting all the awesome grades, I’m one of them; and I’m going to teach you how to be like him.
Completed VCE in 2012 with an ATAR of 99.55, with A+ in Chemistry, Maths Method, Specialist Maths and Physics. Awarded Dux at Bellarine Secondary College.
10 weeks placement as Tertiary Student Assistant at Victorian College of Arts, teaching mathematics.
Current Student of University of Melbourne, majoring in Physics. Subjects done in Melbourne university:
I am currently majoring in Finance and Economics at the University of Melbourne. I am a mathematics tutor and the designer of Nerd of Passion.
I have always loved mathematics, with a special interest in geometry, and seeing how mathematics is being applied to the financial and economic world.
Not to mention I love teaching too. I’ve started tutoring in 2015 and I really enjoy teaching mathematics; sharing my insights, giving study advice, motivating my students and watching them improve. I’ve tutored for a year and my students improved tremendously under my guidance.
I’ve graduated from High School back in 2014 with an ATAR of 98.00, and I find that doing well in school does not mean having no life and grinding 10 hours a day studying. I have also achieved High Distinction of Australian Chemistry Competition and Distinction of Australian Mathematics Competition twice.
Completed VCE at Korowa Anglican Girls School with ATAR of 98.00 in 2014, got A+ in Maths Methods.
Complete UMEP (University Mathematics Extension Program) in Year 12. (same level with first-year subject 'Accelerated Math 1' and 'Linear Algebra' in Melb Uni)
Received Distinction twice in Australian Mathematics Competition, and High Distinction
in Australian Chemistry Competition.
Current student of University of Melbourne, majoring in Finance and Economics. Mathematics related subject done:
I am Zoe, a tutor at The Nerd of Passion. I am currently majoring in Human Structure and Function in University of Melbourne; which requires Anatomy, Biology and Chemistry as its the core.
I am an aspiring doctor, and love biology and chemistry, they are my life. Not to mention I love teaching too; as not only I can provide assistance to others and share my knowledge, I can also consolidate my learning.
My unique teaching style is an emphasis problem-solving and exam skills, and the honing of study skills. Armed with extensive knowledge in maths, biology and chemistry, I will guide you through the your academic journey and point you the way to excellence!
Graduated in Trinity in 2014 with the following subjects and marks:
